Stone Park, IL—April 16, 2013 —For the past several years, David Ruiz has had a feeling that he would win the Lottery. “I’ve been telling my wife that one day we’re going to win, I really felt it in my heart,” he said. The feeling became a reality when Ruiz won a $2 million Powerball jackpot in the March 16 drawing.
The morning after the drawing, Ruiz sat down with a cup of coffee and the newspaper and checked his ticket. He was shocked to see that his Quick Pick ticket with Power Play matched the first five winning Powerball numbers – 03 – 07 – 21 – 44 – 53 – (16). “I ran upstairs to get my glasses in case I wasn’t seeing the numbers right,” Ruiz said when he presented his $2 million winning ticket at the Illinois Lottery Claim Center in Des Plaines.
Ruiz and his wife Maria plan to share the winnings with their three children, invest much of it for the future, and maybe buy new vehicles. Maria currently drives a ’96 Cavalier. “I’ve always wanted to buy my wife a brand new car, and now because of this Lottery win I can,” he said.
The Illinois Lottery held a check presentation today at Armanetti Wine and Spirits, 9513 West Grand Avenue in Franklin Park, where Ruiz purchased his winning ticket. He will receive $1,400,000 after required state and federal withholding. The store received a $20,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
