Chicago, IL— December 12, 2013 — “The first thing on my mind when I bought this lottery ticket was my grandchildren. They are my pride and joy and this prize is for them!” said Raquel Sánchez when she presented her winning Lucky Day Lotto Quick Pick ticket at the Illinois Lottery Prize Center in Chicago. The lucky lottery player won a $350,000 jackpot prize after matching all five numbers — 09 — 20 — 22 — 24 — 27 —in the November 23 Lucky Day Lotto evening drawing.
The Indiana resident was on her way to visit her two daughters in Oak Lawn when she stopped at a gas station to buy a ticket. That evening she used her daughter’s computer to check the winning numbers on illinoislottery.com. When she saw the winning numbers she became speechless. “I kept trying to call my husband and daughters to come look at the screen but I couldn’t speak!”
Sanchez, 60, is retired from the medical industry. She and her husband, a retired policeman, have lived in Whiting, Indiana for two years. Her plans for the windfall include opening a college savings account for each of her four grandchildren. “My family is my priority and my grandchildren represent the future of this country. Their college education is extremely important to me.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Citgo, 6801 West 87th Street in Oak Lawn. The retailer received a $3,500 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling a winning ticket.
