Aurora, IL—February 26, 2013—“I have always had a feeling that I would win big someday, but it’s still unbelievable,” John Perry said after hitting the jackpot playing Lucky Day Lotto. The Aurora resident recently won $162,500 when his $1 Quick Pick ticket matched all five numbers – 03-06-19-33-35 – in the February 8 drawing.
Perry was out at a store when he checked his ticket. “I placed the ticket under the Lottery scanner to see if it was a winner and the screen read, ‘File a claim.’ I asked the clerk to double check it and to tell me the exact amount of my prize. I really never expected to win this much,” he said.
After calling his girlfriend with the good news, Perry went diamond ring shopping and proposed on Valentine’s Day. “We were already planning to get married, but this win made it possible for me to buy a ring,” said Perry. He also plans to pay off debts, get a new car and pay for the wedding next year. “This couldn’t have happened at a better time.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Thornton Gas and Food, 2800 Ogden Avenue in Aurora. The retailer will receive a $1,625 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket. Perry’s Lottery check will be for $113,750 after required state and federal withholding.
There were two winners of $162,500 in the February 8 Lucky Day Lotto drawing. The other winning ticket was purchased at Speedway, located at 9059 South Kingery in Willowbrook. Jackpots for Lucky Day Lotto start at $100,000. Drawings are seven days a week with over 35,000 winners every day. That’s over 200,000 winners in Illinois every week! Lucky Day Lotto drawing takes place every night at 9:22 p.m. For more information, please visit www.illinoislottery.com.
