Jacksonville, IL—June 12, 2013 — Ella Vedder is the first top prize winner in the Illinois Lottery’s 4th of July Millionaire Raffle. The lucky Jacksonville resident won $500,000 in the June 6th Early Bird drawing. “My horoscope that day said I would be lucky at 11am, so at exactly 11am I bought my Raffle ticket. And I won!”
When Vedder bought her Raffle ticket, she also purchased a $250,000,000 Cash Spectacular Instant ticket. “When I scratched my instant ticket, I won $100 and thought that was the good luck my horoscope predicted. I never dreamed I would win this Raffle prize too!”
While out shopping last Thursday, June 6, Vedder received a text message from the Illinois Lottery alerting her that the first 4th of July Millionaire Raffle drawing had taken place, and that results were available on www.illinoislottery.com. As soon as she got home, she checked the winning Raffle numbers on the website and discovered that her ticket — number 270721 — was the $500,000 winner. Vedder has four children, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. “I’m excited about sharing this money with my kids,” she said. She also plans to buy a new house and car.
Vedder said she often plays instant Lottery games, and always buys a Raffle ticket. And for this raffle game, Vedder’s ticket is still in the running to win more prizes. Her raffle ticket will remain eligible for all early bird drawings in June, and the final drawing on July 4th. “My kids have teased me about playing the Lottery, but I love to play. It’s my entertainment. And after this I don’t think they’ll tease me anymore!”
The winning ticket was purchased at Circle K, 238 East Morton Avenue in Jacksonville. The store received a $5,000 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket.
The Illinois Lottery will hold the second early bird drawing for its 4th of July Millionaire Raffle tomorrow June 13. The Lottery is reminding people to play today so they will be eligible for tomorrow’s drawing, plus the next three drawings, giving players more chances to win big prizes.
This year’s 4th of July Millionaire Raffle is the first game of its kind offered by the Illinois Lottery, costing just $10 to play and offering chances in multiple drawings - June 6, 13, 20 and 27, and the Grand Prize drawing on July 4th - on a single ticket. Since the launch of this popular game on Memorial Day, the Lottery has sold through almost half of all raffle tickets. 4th of July Millionaire Raffle tickets are available at more than 8,100 Illinois Lottery retailers.
Winning raffle numbers will be available on the Illinois Lottery’s website at www.illinoislottery.com after each drawing. Raffle players can stay on top of weekly winning numbers and get reminders and results notifications delivered to their cellular phone by texting “Raffles” to 4-6-7-8-6 (Mobile carrier fee may apply).
