Cicero, IL—March 4, 2013—“We have always dreamed of having a house in Mexico and now, because of this Lottery win, we can make our dream come true,” Ramiro Maldonado told Lottery officials when he presented his winning Cash For Life instant ticket. The Cicero resident bought two $2 Cash For Life instant tickets and scratched them in his car. On the first ticket, he won $2. “I was happy about that,” he said. On the second ticket he won $1,000 A Week for Life. “I never expected something like this to happen to me!”
Maldonado immediately signed his winning ticket and drove home to tell his wife the good news. “My wife put on her glasses, looked at the matching numbers and told me it was true.” The couple took turns double-checking the ticket then put it in a Bible for safekeeping. Their plans for the winnings include paying bills and investing for retirement. “I’ve been working as a machine operator for 37 years and I cannot retire yet, but when I do, it’s going to be good!”
The winning ticket was purchased at JD Food and Liquor, 10147 West Roosevelt Road in Westchester. The store will receive a $7,620 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket. Maldonado chose the one-time cash option of $762,000.
“We have no more financial worries,” Maldonado said.
The Lottery offers a number of versions of the Cash for Life instant game including games with top prizes of $500, $1,000, $2,500 and $5,000 a-week-for-life.
