Orland Park, IL—May 17, 2013 —Helena Dziedzic has been playing the Illinois Lottery for years and the most she’d ever won was $600. That was until she decided to play Mega Millions. “It was the day before the drawing and it was finally nice outside — a pleasant change from the rain. I was out and about and decided to play Mega Millions because the jackpot was at $126 million,” Dziedzic said. She didn’t win the grand prize, but this lucky Lottery player walked away with $250,000 when she matched the first five numbers — 02 - 20 - 34 - 42 - 54 - (39) — on a Quick Pick in the May 3 Mega Millions drawing. “It’s a nice prize, the most I’ve ever won!” she exclaimed.
The Orland Park resident is a proud grandmother of two; she immediately thought of her grandchildren when she discovered her win. “After I screamed and realized I wasn’t dreaming, I decided to put some cash away into an education fund so my grandbabies can go to college,” Dziedzic said. She also plans to use some of the money to pay for her daughter’s wedding this coming July. “She’s my only child and I want to make sure her day is beautiful,” she said.
Dziedzic purchased her winning ticket at Tinley Corner Store, 9410 179th Street, in Tinley Park. The store will receive a $2,500 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket.
The Mega Millions drawing takes place Tuesday and Friday nights at 10:00 p.m. The current estimated jackpot is $190 million. For more information, please visit www.illinoislottery.com.
