Bartlett, IL— November 22, 2013 — “When I play an instant lottery ticket, I always use a penny, heads up, to scratch it,” Philip Kosinski said when he presented his top prize winning $2,000,000 EXTRAVAGANZA! ticket at the Illinois Lottery Prize Center in Des Plaines. “I’ve always had a feeling that someday I would win big and I did - $2,000,000!”
Kosinski has lived in Bartlett for 19 years. He retired last spring after 40 years in the concrete construction industry. Married with nine children and two grandchildren, his plans for the windfall are to pay off his mortgage, invest and share with family. “We live a pretty simple life, but Christmas will be a big deal for my family this year!”
The winning ticket was purchased at United Liquor and Cigar Depot, 1276 West Lake Street in Roselle. “I scratched my ticket while I was still in the store, and when I saw the prize amount I was in a daze. I think I even cried!” The retailer will receive a $20,000 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket. Kosinski chose the one-time cash option payment of $1,200,000 prior to withholding.
