Naperville, IL—November 6, 2013 — The first time Nicos Digrindakis ever bought an Illinois Lottery Raffle ticket he won $1 million. “I still can’t believe it! I’m speechless!” he said after realizing his ticket - bearing the number 282929 - was one of the four $1million winning tickets in this year’s Halloween Millionaire Raffle.
Digrindakis lives in Naperville and commutes to his finance job in downtown Chicago. One October morning when he arrived at Union Station, an Illinois Lottery special event was underway promoting the Halloween Millionaire Raffle and offering customers one free Instant ticket with the purchase of a Raffle ticket. A fan of instant games, Digrindakis decided to buy a Raffle ticket to get the free instant ticket. ”I put the Raffle ticket in my wallet and scratched my instant ticket right away.”
November 1, Digrindakis opened his wallet to pay for his lunch and saw the Raffle ticket. On the way back to his office he went into a store to check it. “When I saw the file a claim message on the ticket scanner I figured I had won a small prize, but when the clerk told me I won $1million I was in shock. I just couldn’t believe I won the Raffle. I kept missing my street on the walk back to my office!”
Digrindakis is married with three children. His plans for the windfall include paying bills, buying a new car and paying for college for his three daughters. Digrindakis’ raffle prize will be for $700,000, after required state and federal withholding. When asked what advice he had for other lottery players, Digrindakis said, “You have to play to win!”
The other three (3) $1-million Halloween Raffle winning-ticket numbers and selling locations were:
The Lottery is still on the lookout for the lucky player who won $500,000 in the October 3 Halloween Raffle early-bird drawing. The $500,000 winner, who has yet to come forward, purchased the winning ticket (#31888) at Mar-Shell Station, 2922 East 24th Road, in Marseilles.
Halloween Millionaire Raffle was played like a typical raffle game. Each $20 raffle ticket contained a unique number automatically generated by the Lottery terminal. Raffle tickets were sold in sequential order throughout the state beginning with ticket number 000,001. To win one of the top prizes, a raffle ticket must exactly match one of the winning number sequences selected in the October 3 and/or November 1 drawings. Leading up to the November 1 grand prize drawing, 3,358 players won $100 instant-win raffle prizes.
