Alton, IL—October 30, 2013 — When Doug Compton scratched a $3 Crossword instant ticket and won $25, he decided to treat himself to a $20 50X The Cash instant ticket. “I really like to play Bingo and Crossword tickets once in a while, this time I thought I’d try something new.” He set his 50X The Cash ticket aside and drove to his mother’s house for their usual Sunday visit. “When I got to my mom’s, I sat in my truck for a minute to scratch the ticket and then I became hysterical. I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing!” His 50X The Cash instant ticket was a $4million winner.
Compton jumped out of his truck as his brother was pulling into the driveway. “We yelled for my mom, we were all so excited! I couldn’t stop shaking while I signed the back of my ticket!” Compton put his winning ticket in an envelope and held onto it all day while he celebrated with his family and made plans for the windfall. “I told my mom she will have whatever she wants or needs, and I plan to help out my two boys,” he said.
The 50 year old Alton resident is a foreman at Lerry-Mead Concrete Construction in Godfrey. He has worked there for 22 years and plans to keep his job. Compton chose to take his $4million prize as an annuity and will receive payments of $200,000 each year for 20 years. “This is a lot of money and I plan to use it wisely.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Casey’s General Store, 1511 West Delmar Avenue in Godfrey. The retailer will receive a $40,000 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket. To commemorate the win, Lottery officials today presented Compton an oversized check at the Godfrey Casey’s store.
50X The Cash is a $20 instant ticket with more than $45 million in prizes ranging from $50 to $100,000. For more information, please visit www.illinoislottery.com.
