Hoffman Estates, IL—February 11, 2013— Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the Illinois Lottery announces a top prize winner from the Lucky in Love instant game. Bernadette Makkay-Fonzino was “hysterical” after scratching her Lucky in Love ticket and winning $20,000.
The Hoffman Estates resident was prompted to buy a Lucky in Love instant ticket by her adult daughter, who recently won $100 on the game. Makkay-Fonzino was in her living room when she remembered the ticket in her purse. She got it out, scratched it with a dime, “and then I ran into the kitchen to look at it in better lighting!” She immediately called her daughter to share the good news. Plans for the winnings include paying off her car and saving for a trip to Italy. “My grandparents came to the United States from Italy, so I’ve always wanted to go there for a visit.”
When asked if she had any advice for others, Makkay-Fonzino said, “Take a chance – look what $2 can get you!” The winning ticket was purchased at Wood Dale Tobacco, 355 Georgetown Square in Wood Dale. The store will receive a $200 bonus for selling a winning ticket.
The $2 instant game, Lucky in Love, offers players the chance to win a top prize of $20,000. When players match any of their numbers to either winning number, they win the prize shown for that number. If they uncover a cupid symbol, they automatically win the prize shown for that symbol. Overall odds of winning are 1-in-4.55. For more information, please visit www.illinoislottery.com.
