Ottawa, IL—February 6, 2013— Kathy Schlingman has lived in Ottawa all her life, but now spends winters in Florida. The self-proclaimed “happy snowbird” abruptly flew home at the end of January after receiving a call from her son. “He was really sick with the flu and asked me to come back,” she said. Taking advantage of her trip to Illinois, Schlingman bought a $1 Quick Pick ticket for the January 26 Lucky Day Lotto drawing. The next morning she checked the winning numbers on the Illinois Lottery website and was “shocked” to discover she had matched all five numbers – 01 – 24 – 30 – 34 – 38 – and won $133,333.
“It’s crazy because I wasn’t supposed to be here! If I hadn’t come home to see my son and take care of him, I wouldn’t have been here in Illinois to play Lucky Day Lotto, and I wouldn’t have won,” she said. Schlingman’s plans for the winnings include sharing with family and friends. “I know a lot of people who could use some help right now, this Lottery win couldn’t have happened at a better time.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Express Lane located at 1106 First Avenue in Ottawa. The store received a bonus of $1,333 for selling the winning ticket.
Jackpots for Lucky Day Lotto start at $100,000. Drawings are seven days a week with over 35,000 winners every day. That’s over 200,000 winners in Illinois every week! The Lucky Day Lotto drawing takes place every night at 9:22 p.m. For more information, please visit www.illinoislottery.com.
