Wheaton, IL—November 20, 2012— Robert Kolbe plays a few dollars a week on the lottery but he’s never hit it big until now. “I’ve always played and I get payouts here and there. I’ve won $150 numerous times, but I’ve never won this much,” he said. Kolbe is referring to the $250,000 he won in the November 16 Mega Millions drawing when he matched the first five numbers - 05 - 24 - 26 - 29 – 53 – (36).
Kolbe was at home when he decided to check the Illinois Lottery’s website, www.illinoislottery.com, to see if he had a winning ticket. “When I saw that I won, I had to check my ticket again and again to make sure it was indeed a winner. I like to check my tickets online because it’s coming straight from the Lottery and narrows the margin of error, so I knew for sure I was a winner,” he said.
As a retiree, he works part-time at a golf course and as a consultant. Kolbe plans to pay off some bills and put the rest of his money away. “This win came right on time since golf season is at its end,” he said. “I can relax a little and enjoy my retirement.”
This lucky lottery winner purchased his winning ticket at 7-Eleven, 326 West Liberty Drive in Wheaton. The retailer will receive a $2,500 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling a winning ticket. The Mega Millions drawing takes place Tuesday and Friday nights at 10:00 p.m. and the current estimated jackpot is $33,000,000. For more information, please visit www.illinoislottery.com.
