Pontiac, IL – April 9, 2014 – Pontiac resident Ron Minnaert, President of the State Bank of Graymont, had no idea that the Hit or Miss lottery ticket he had tucked inside his checkbook was a $2.25million winner. Minnaert won the Hit or Miss jackpot prize of $250,000 now and $100,000 every year for 20 years when he matched – or “hit” - all 12 numbers - 02 - 06 - 07 - 10 - 12 - 13 - 14 - 15 - 16 - 18 - 20 – 22 – and matched the Good Life number – 05 - in the Tuesday, January 28 Hit or Miss midday drawing.
Minnaert discovered his win when a colleague told him that the Shell gas station in Pontiac sold a jackpot winning Hit or Miss ticket. Then she used her phone to look up the winning numbers. Minnaert remembered that he had purchased his Hit or Miss ticket at that Shell station and when he saw the winning numbers on the screen they looked very familiar. “I think the big winner is me!” Minnaert said. He immediately drove home and double checked the winning numbers on illinoislottery.com.
Minnaert has worked at the State Bank of Graymont since 1979. He and his wife Jeannie have two children. Plans for the windfall include completing some home renovation projects that were underway prior to the win. “This lottery win will certainly make it easier to finish them,” he said. Minnaert also plans to invest. “And we’re going to celebrate with
Tony’s Fat Pretzels at Bernardi’s II and Ice Cream from Pontiac Dairy Queen!”
The winning ticket was purchased at Shell Gas Station, 1910 West Reynolds Street in Pontiac. The retailer will receive a bonus of $22,500, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket. Today, Illinois Lottery officials presented Minnaert a ceremonial check for his $2,250,000 prize and Shell Gas Station a ceremonial check for their $22,500 bonus.
Hit or Miss was launched last September and costs $2 per game. Players win cash by matching 8 to 12 numbers --or matching 0 to 4 numbers—of the 12 numbers selected (from 24 total) for each drawing. Players who win a $250,000 top prize can win an additional 20 annual payments of $100,000 by matching The Good Life number—a randomly generated number from 1 to 5. That’s a total potential prize of $2.25 million!
Drawings take place four times a day, seven days a week at 10:30 a.m., 12:40 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 9:22 p.m. Winning numbers are displayed on www.illinoislottery.com.
