Yorkville, IL—July 21, 2014 — “After I realized I won a quarter of a million dollars, I signed the back of my ticket and put it in a little plastic baggie until I could claim my prize. I was so worried something might happen to it!” Richard Carlson said when he presented his winning Lucky Day Lotto ticket at the Illinois Lottery Prize Center in Springfield. The Yorkville resident won the $250,000 jackpot when his $1 Lucky Day Lotto Quick Pick ticket matched all five numbers – 11 - 13 - 28 - 32 – 35 – in the 4th of July midday drawing.
Carlson is a Vietnam Combat Veteran and a retired construction worker. He is married with three children and four grandchildren. His plans for the windfall include buying a condo in Florida and investing. When asked if he had any advice for others he said, “Why not try a ticket once in a while? I plan to keep playing!”
An occasional Lucky Day Lotto player, Carlson bought his winning ticket at Express Lane, 109 State Route 47 in Sugar Grove. The retailer will receive a $2,500 bonus, equal to 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket.
Lucky Day Lotto drawings are twice a day, seven days a week and now offer bigger and better prizes for the same price, with the same draw times. For more information, please visit www.illinoislottery.com.
