CICERO, Ill. – March 31, 2009 – Michael Goza’s dreams came true after finding out that he was Illinois Lottery’s newest millionaire, winning $4 million from the March 16, 2009, Lotto drawing.
Goza, an avid lottery player, prefers quick picks over a chosen set of lucky numbers, which is how we won the jackpot.
“I started reading the numbers out loud and when I got to the last number, I just started screaming,” said Goza. “I couldn’t believe it.”
Goza will use his new found wealth to take a break from the Midwest weather and vacation in Hawaii. As an employee of the U.S. Postal Service and Chicago Bulls, he is keeping his jobs because he enjoys what he does. He also feels the Bulls are close to winning a championship and would “love” to get a championship watch.
“It’s always an exciting time when we have a new winner,” said Jodie Winnett, acting superintendent for the Illinois Lottery. “We are so happy that we can make new millionaires here in Illinois.”
“You have to play to win,” Goza said quoting the Illinois Lottery’s motto. “Keep playing because people do win!” With his win, he joins the more than 920 other millionaires made through the Illinois Lottery’s Lotto game.
The winning ticket was sold at the Shell gas station, located at 5995 West Roosevelt Road in Cicero, Ill., and the winning numbers were 3, 8, 12, 25, 34, and 45. The Shell station will receive a 1 percent bonus of $40,000 for selling the winning ticket.
Founded in 1974, the Illinois Lottery has contributed over $18 billion to the state’s Common School Fund to assist K-12 public schools, as well as hundreds of millions of dollars to the Capital Projects Fund and to special causes like Illinois Veterans, the fight against breast cancer, MS research, and assistance for people living with HIV/AIDS. In addition to playing in-store, the Illinois Lottery offers online and mobile play for Mega Millions, Powerball and Lotto at www.illinoislottery.com. Players must be at least 18 years old.
