CHICAGO – Jan. 15, 2009 – The Illinois Lottery announced today the launch of the new Rock, Paper, Scissors (RPS) instant ticket. Each ticket costs $2, offers prize amounts up to $25,000 and is available for purchase at Illinois Lottery retailers across the state.

“At some point virtually everyone has played Rock, Paper, Scissors growing up and it's widely utilized in pop cultural references. There are regional, national and even international competitions held for the sport,” said Paul Arnell, director of promotions for the Illinois Lottery.

“Considering the devoted following, the Lottery’s new instant ticket is another great way to experience the game and perhaps even win some money!”

In honor of the new ticket and the fan following, the Lottery will host RPS tournaments at local venues in various Illinois cities during the next six weeks. The winner at each event will win $500 in cash.

“With all the blistery cold weather that has swept across the state, this is a great indoor activity for all adults,” said Arnell. “Plus, who couldn’t use an extra $500 after the holidays.”

The rules of participation are as simple as the game itself – anyone, ages 18 or older, can play. Game enthusiasts will place their names on entry forms when they arrive at each location.

A random drawing will determine the 32 participants, and their names will appear on a bracket in the order in which they were drawn. The winners will then face off in a mini boxing ring, and the last one standing will be declared the winner!
