SPRINGFIELD--June 8, 2011--Springfield resident Vicky Green is the fourth grand prize winner to date in the Lottery’s “Cash For Life” instant game series. The northside resident has varied plans for her ‘$500 A Week for Life’ prize, including helping a single-mom co-worker/friend pay for part of her daughter’s wedding.
“I’m going to give back to God, pay off my bills, and do something nice for myself and others,” said Green, 56. “It’s a wonderful position to be in, and I’m quite thankful.”
For herself, Green is purchasing a 2011 Ford 150 pickup, something she has “always wanted.” The new pickup truck has plenty of towing power, and may be called upon to tow a small recreational trailer after Green retires.
A 30-year employee with the IL Department of Human Services (IDHS), Green will be eligible for retirement in September. She says the Lottery windfall will make retirement come sooner rather than later, but has not yet set a date. “Retirement is probably a couple years down the road--but it could be sooner!” she said.
Green’s winning $1 ticket was purchased over the Memorial Day weekend, while Green and a close friend from work were visiting Green’s brother, who lives near Quincy. Green’s friend and IDHS co-worker, Patsy Auerbach, actually purchased the winning ticket for Green while they stopped for gas at an Ayerco gas station in Liberty (602 S. Main St). The Ayerco station will receive a $3,800 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
Green is going to help another IDHS co-worker, Sally Taylor, by paying for Sally’s daughter’s wedding-rehearsal dinner later this month. “Like Sally, I was a single parent,” said Green. “I know what it’s like to scrimp and save and still not have enough to get by.” Not only is Green paying for the rehearsal dinner, but she is going to help serve the dinner, too!
“We all want to live a long, healthy life,” said Jodie Winnett, Acting Superintendent of the Illinois Lottery. “Cash for Life provides an added incentive to do exactly that. We are thrilled with Ms. Green’s win, and are excited that Lottery players statewide have embraced all three of the Cash For Life games.”
Green is the fourth grand prize winner to date in the Lottery’s Cash For Life instant ticket series. The $1 game offers prizes of up to $500 a week for life; the $2 game features prizes up to $1,000 a week for life; and the $5 game’s top prize is $2,500 a week for Life. Other $500 a week for Life winners to date include Dan Kaiser of Machesney Park, and Jose Garcia of Chicago. Elizabeth Wilson of Chicago recently claimed the first $1,000 a week for life prize. There are multiple grand prizes still available in all three Cash For Life games.
Green opted to receive her $500 a week for life prize in a one-time payment of $380,000, less taxes. She is an occasional player of other Lottery games, including Lotto, Little Lotto and Mega Millions.
