October 15, 2012 – Chicago IL – “Shocked” is a fitting description of how Ray Hibler, an electrical designer, felt when he discovered his $1,000,000 Mega Millions Lottery win. “I’ve never had a million dollars in my pocket before. This is a very big deal,” Hibler said.
Hibler works for an engineering firm in the western suburbs. He and his wife, Connie, have six children. They plan to meet with a financial advisor to make investments, but also set aside some “mad” money for a Florida vacation and a new truck. “I’d like to replace my ’95 Ford pick-up,” said Hibler.
Playing Mega Millions once a week for the past two years, Hibler bought his winning Quick Pick ticket along with a Megaplier at Thornton Gas and Food Mart, 1602 Essington Road in Joliet. After checking his ticket at a store, he went home to have his wife double-check the winning numbers on the Illinois Lottery website, www.illinoislottery.com. “We just set the ticket on the coffee table and looked at it. We had a hard time sleeping that night,” Hibler recalled.
Hibler hit it big when he matched the first five numbers – 06 – 08 – 14 – 43 – 56 – (28) in the September 28 drawing. Match – 5 payouts are usually $250,000 but since Hibler purchased the Megaplier, he quadrupled his wins – making him an instant millionaire. Thornton Gas and Food Mart will receive a $10,000 bonus, 1 percent of the jackpot amount, for selling a winning ticket.
