Joliet Great Grandmother Wins $200,000 With Her Lucky Penny

Joliet, IL—December 5, 2012— Jaruth Tumbling was in the car when she used a lucky penny to scratch her Seasons Winnings instant ticket. “I thought I won $20,000, then my daughter checked the ticket and told me I won $200,000. I couldn’t believe it!” she told Illinois Lottery staff when she claimed her $200,000 prize.
Tumbling has lived in Joliet since 1945. Her plans for the winnings include donating to her church and sharing with her two daughters, eight grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. “This Lottery win will help some of my great grandchildren go to college.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Shell at Cass, 710 East Cass Street in Joliet. The store will receive a $2,000 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling a winning ticket.
