“I had no choice but to watch the games with my dad.  If he was watching the Cards play, we all had to watch the Cards play,” Underwood said.

Those memories fuel her love for the game and her fondness for Cardinal red.  So it was just second nature when she walked into Sax Speedi-Check located on Main Street in Mascoutah and bought a $2 Illinois Lottery MLB instant ticket featuring the St. Louis Cardinals.

“I thought it would be cool to win season tickets to the St. Louis Cardinals,” she said. “I bought my ticket and scratched it on my way to work.”  At first, she recalls she was a bit disappointed to find that she was almost finished scratching and she hadn’t won. Then with one more St. Louis Cardinals logo to go, she unveiled a star.

“I had to double check to see what a star meant.  When I realized that I won season tickets, I was beside myself!” she exclaimed.  Underwood called her husband right away, but he didn’t believe her good news until she assured him she wasn’t playing a prank on him. When asked if she’d take her husband to the games she chuckled, “I better he’s an even bigger Cardinals fan than me.”

Though, she’s ecstatic about the season tickets, she is particularly looking forward to the first game of the 2013 season. Underwood has never been to Opening Day and can’t wait to experience it.

News traveled fast regarding Underwood’s season ticket win and she’s now somewhat of a celebrity. She works as a middle school bus driver in Mascoutah and the community is just as excited about her win as she is. Underwood say she plans on giving away some of the tickets as gifts. “Eighty plus games in one season, that’s a lot of games.  I think it would be nice to share this prize and put a smile on someone else’s face,” she said.

Cardinals season ticket top prize is still available, as is top instant cash prizes of $25,000. And, the Illinois Lottery is out reminding people about the massive $240,000,000 Powerball Jackpot for Wednesday’s drawing.
