Villa Park, IL – December 12, 2012 – The first and only time Asif Khan ever played the instant game $4,000,000 Gold Bullion, he won $1,000,000. “It was my lucky day!” he shouted. Today Illinois Lottery officials presented Khan with a ceremonial check for $1,000,000.
Khan, 21, is a student at East-West University in Chicago and plans to become a doctor. He lives with his parents and two sisters and borrows his mom’s car to get to school. “I’ve been having a hard time paying for my education, but everything will change now that I’ve won the lottery. Now I can pay for school and help my family. I plan to get my own car and maybe buy a house too!”
Khan bought his winning $4,000,000 Gold Bullion instant ticket at Hillside Shell, 4750 Roosevelt Road in Hillside. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus, one percent of the prize amount, for selling a winning ticket.
Khan scratched the ticket at the store, then immediately drove home to tell his mom. “I had to wake her up to tell her. She was so happy for me!” An occasional player, Khan buys one or two instant lottery tickets every week. His biggest win prior to this was $25. He advises other lottery players to “buy one or two tickets a week and keep your hopes up… because you never know!”
As with all lottery games, proceeds from instant tickets benefit the Common School Fund and the Capital Projects Fund. To date, the Illinois Lottery has contributed over $17.5 billion to support education and public works in Illinois.
