Freeport, IL—April 3, 2013 —Almost a year after the Red Bud, Illinois Mega Millions win, Saturday night proved to be a very lucky night for a lottery player who purchased a winning $50 million Powerball ticket in Freeport. The store will receive only the third $500,000 bonus ever awarded by the lottery. The $50 million winner, who has not yet been identified, won the Powerball jackpot when his or her ticket matched all five numbers and the Powerball in the March 30 drawing: 11 - 23 - 26 - 46 - 55 - (27).

The winning Quick Pick ticket was purchased at Express Lane, 1736 South West Avenue, in Freeport, which will receive a $500,000 selling bonus.

“Selling a winning $50,000,000 Powerball ticket in Freeport, Illinois proves that anything is possible,” said Illinois Lottery Superintendent Michael Jones. “It’s the second major jackpot won in our state in a year. We urge the ticket buyer to sign the back of their ticket, keep it in a safe place until we verify the win, and visit our website to obtain information on how best to handle such a huge prize.”

While the lottery knows where the ticket was sold, it does not have confirmation on who purchased it.

The $500,000 retailer selling bonus is the largest bonus any Illinois Lottery retailer can receive for selling a single ticket, under Lottery rules. Two other stores in Illinois have received $500,000 selling bonuses — Moto Mart in Red Bud, for selling a $218.6 million Mega Millions ticket in March of 2012 (one-third of the largest ever jackpot of $656 million); and Glenwood Minuteman Citgo for selling a $118 million Mega Millions prize in May of 2012.

Illinois Lottery officials are encouraging lottery players to check their tickets to see if they won the jackpot—or one of eight smaller prizes available for matching one or more of the Powerball numbers selected in the March 30 drawing. Lottery prizes up to $600 can be claimed at most Lottery retail locations. Prizes over $600 must be claimed at one of five Lottery prize centers across Illinois, located in Chicago, Des Plaines, Springfield, Rockford and Fairview Heights. More information about the claims process can be found on the Illinois Lottery’s website at www.illinoislottery.com.

Since Illinois first introduced this multi-state game in 2010, Powerball has contributed more than $120 million to the Illinois Common School Fund and Capital Projects Fund.
