Chicago, IL—April 24, 2013 —“I just couldn’t believe my eyes when I scratched my ticket! In fact, I took off my glasses, cleaned them and put them back on to look at the ticket again,” Lakesha Mapp said after scratching a $3,000,000 Cash Jackpot instant Lottery ticket and instantly becoming a millionaire. Today, Illinois Lottery officials presented the Chicago resident with an oversized check for $1 million.

Mapp, who buys three or four instant tickets a year, said this was the second time she had ever played $3,000,000 Cash Jackpot. She was at home when she used a quarter to scratch her ticket. “I’ve really been struggling, so as I scratched the ticket I was just hoping and hoping and hoping I’d win.” Currently living in an apartment, she plans to use the winnings to buy a house and invest in a college fund for her son. “This win is a true blessing,” she said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Farmers Food Basket, 400 East 71st Street in Chicago. “This is a family store and we are so happy that someone from our community won this Lottery prize,” said store owner Hatem Masud. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.

There are still three prizes of $3 million and 16 prizes of $1 million yet to be claimed on $3,000,000 Cash Jackpot. Mapp chose to take her prize as the one-time cash option of $606,428. After withholding, her lottery check will be for $424,499.60.
