Chicago, IL— December 24, 2013 — Marco Hawkins was picking up a few last-minute items for dinner on Thanksgiving Day when he decided to try his luck with a $1 $1,000 A Week for 20 Years The Good Life instant Lottery ticket. The lucky Chicago resident instantly won a top prize of $1,000 A Week for 20 Years. “I’ve always believed that if you work hard and give back, your dreams will come true, and this ticket proves it!”
After scratching the ticket inside the store and discovering he won, Hawkins went straight home to share the news with his family. “My hands were shaking so much that I couldn’t use my keys and had to knock on my own front door! When my sister opened it all I could say was ‘my dream came true!’”
Hawkins, 27, has 10 brothers and sisters. As a middle child he grew up helping his younger and older siblings- even with styling their hair. His plans for the windfall include applying for a cosmetology license, supporting an animal charity and helping his family. “This lottery win will not only help me achieve my career aspirations, it also means I can continue to take care of my siblings,” he said.
Hawkins will receive the $1,000 A Week For 20 Years The Good Life prize in annual installments of $52,000 for 20 years (totaling $1,040,000 prior to required withholding). The winning ticket was purchased at Herman Food and Deli, 20 West 138th street in Riverdale. For selling the winning ticket, the retailer will receive a bonus of $10,400, equal to 1 percent of the prize amount.
The Good Life tickets are available at four different price points--$1, $2, $5 and $10 with respective top prizes of $1,000, $2,000, $3,000 and $10,000 a week for 20 years. For more information, please visit www.illinoislottery.com.
