Chicago, IL—March 20, 2013—Alice Griffin knows that you can play the Lottery in moderation and still win big. “Last year I won $5,000 on Cash Spectacular, and now I’ve won $1 million on the same game. And, I don’t even play the Lottery that often,” she said, describing herself as a “once-in-a-while-Lottery-player” who has been playing the Lottery for about two years. “My sister talked me into playing the Lottery, and I’m happy she did! I’ve won big twice. Who can say they’ve had that much luck? I can!” she exclaimed.

Griffin was running errands when she decided to pick up a Lottery ticket. “When I play the Lottery, I always choose Cash Spectacular because of the amount I won on it before. I took the ticket home and didn’t scratch it until the next day,” she said. The next morning when Griffin scratched the ticket she couldn’t believe her eyes.

“When I play a scratch ticket, I don’t scratch the whole thing. I remove just enough to see my winning numbers. When I saw I had an “Auto win” I thought I had won $10 or so,” Griffin said. She kept scratching and revealed the winning amount – $1,000,000! “When I saw it was $1 million, I was in disbelief! First thing I did was sign the back of my ticket. Then I called my sister and my friend and they came over to double check my ticket. They confirmed what I already knew – I was a big winner!” she said.

Griffin took the $600,000 lump-sum option payout, and will receive $420,000 after required state and federal withholding. “Right now, I’m just so overjoyed. Whatever I decide to do with this money, I can tell you that I will be smart and put some aside, and do something fun for me,” she said.

The lucky Alsip resident purchased her winning ticket at Danny’s Market Place, 1965 Vermont Street in Blue Island. The retailer will receive a $10,000 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling a winning ticket. Cash Spectacular is a $10 instant ticket that currently has five unclaimed $1-million top prizes. For more information, please visit
