Chicago, IL— December 13, 2013 — As a result of continued strong sales in Illinois and across the nation, tonight’s Mega Millions jackpot has been bumped to $425 million. The increased jackpot is the largest jackpot since last year’s $656 million Mega Millions jackpot split between winners in Kansas, Maryland and Redbud, Illinois.
This past October the Mega Millions jackpot was upgraded to include larger, faster growing jackpots; second-place prizes of at least $1million; and better odds of winning smaller cash prizes. Illinois residents 18 and over can try their luck at tonight’s Mega Millions $425 million jackpot while they are out and about by playing the game on their mobile phone via their mobile carriers’ Internet (3G, 4G and LTE) connection. This convenience is currently available to AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless customers. Lottery players who do not use these carriers can still play via mobile devices by using a Wi-Fi connection. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.myillinoislottery.com or at more than 8,200 retailers across the state.
Since Illinois introduced its first multi-state lottery game, Mega Millions (previously the Big Game) has contributed over $1 billion to the Illinois Common School Fund and Capital Projects Fund.
Founded in 1974, the Illinois Lottery has contributed over $18 billion to the state’s Common School Fund to assist K-12 public schools, as well as hundreds of millions of dollars to the Capital Projects Fund and to special causes like Illinois Veterans, the fight against breast cancer, MS research, and assistance for people living with HIV/AIDS. In addition to playing in-store, the Illinois Lottery offers online and mobile play for Mega Millions, Powerball and Lotto at www.illinoislottery.com. Players must be at least 18 years old.
