Mount Vernon, IL—October 8, 2013 — “I never thought I would beat the odds and win the lottery! Now I know it really can happen,” Cheryl Allen said after winning $100,000 playing the Illinois Lottery instant game 50X The Cash. The Mount Vernon resident said she buys one instant ticket every month on payday, but never imagined she would win a prize this large. “I’m still in a state of disbelief!”
Allen said she believes she has her sister to thank for the 50X The Cash win. “I don’t usually go to the store on a Saturday morning but my sister asked me to meet her there. I was waiting for her when I put my money into the self-service lottery machine and chose this ticket. If it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t have won.” Allen took her ticket home and used a quarter to scratch it. After checking it over “at least four times,” she realized it was a big winner and immediately signed the back of the ticket.
Plans for the windfall are to pay bills and help her sister buy a car. “I will be debt free because of this win.” Allen bought her winning ticket at Louie’s Country Corner, 16719 North 1000th Street in Effingham. The retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling a winning ticket.
50X The Cash is a $20 instant ticket with more than $45 million in prizes ranging from $50 to $100,000. For more information, please visit www.illinoislottery.com.
