East Peoria, IL—July 3, 2013 — A Pekin man who has been playing the same six Lottery numbers for 12 years has claimed a $250,000 Lottery prize by matching five of the six numbers in a recent Mega Millions drawing. Today, Jason Breweur and his wife, Christy, were presented an oversized, commemorative check from Lottery officials at the SK Short Shop, the East Peoria gas/convenience store where Breweur bought his winning ticket.

The Breweurs plan to use the Lottery windfall to pay off their home mortgage and start college funds for their two children, ages 7 and 10. Beyond that, they may use some of the prize to update the siding and some of the flooring in their Pekin home, which they have lived in for 10 years.

“The Breweurs’ story is typical of Lottery winners,” said Lottery Superintendent Michael Jones. “Thanks to their Lottery win, this thoughtful family will soon be debt-free, and will have a solid plan for financing the children’s college costs. It’s a great example of ‘anything’s possible’ personified.”

Breweur, 41, has won numerous small Lottery prizes over the years, and said he always thought he would win a big prize. Despite the big win, Breweur said he will continue to play the same numbers and buy $6 worth of Lotto and Mega Millions tickets each week.

Breweur discovered he won on Sunday, June 23 when he scanned his ticket at a Pekin Lottery retailer. He could hardly believe his eyes when he learned the ticket was worth $250,000. After signing the back of his ticket, the Breweurs borrowed a small safe from Christy’s mother and kept the winning ticket locked in the safe, which was next to their bed Sunday evening. After a nearly sleepless night spent contemplating their win, the couple drove to Springfield Monday morning with their 10-year-old son and presented the ticket to Lottery officials.

“That’s when it started to sink in that we really won,” said Jason, who works as a truck driver for N. E. Finch Construction. Christy, 41, works from home as a telephone triage nurse for OSF St. Francis medical center. Both husband and wife will continue working at their respective jobs.

The winning numbers from the June 21 Mega Millions drawing are: 03 - 14 - 17 - 40 - 50 — (03). SK Short Shop is located at 2000 Springfield Rd in East Peoria, and will receive a $2,500 bonus for selling the winning ticket. After required state and federal withholding, the Breweurs’ Lottery payment will be $175,000. The prize payment will be delivered in about four weeks.
