Willowbrook, IL—April 3, 2013 — Every day for a year Charles Malone has driven past a newly constructed house in Clarendon Hills and told his wife they were going to live in it someday. “I’ve been saying that I’m going to get her that house, I don’t know how, but I am.” He and his wife Abby can now buy their dream home thanks to a $2 million Lottery win. Malone’s Quick Pick ticket with Power Play matched the first five numbers — 03 — 07 — 21 — 44 — 53 — (16) - in the March 16 Powerball drawing.

The day after the drawing, Malone went to a store and used the Lottery ticket checker to scan his ticket. He was shocked to discover his win. “I can’t eat, I can’t sleep, and Abby was shaking like a leaf on a tree,” Malone said when he presented his winning ticket at the Illinois Lottery Claim Center in Des Plaines.

Malone is a Vietnam Veteran and a retired nurse, working his last 10 years at Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital. They plan to share the winnings with their six children and 15 grandchildren. “And I’m going to trade my old car in for a new one,” Malone added.

The Illinois Lottery held a check presentation today at Falcon Pantry, 6601 South Cass Avenue in Westmont, where Malone purchased his winning ticket. He will receive $1,400,000 after required state and federal withholding. The store received a $20,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
