Normal, IL—April 24, 2014 — “I love this game! I used to play Monopoly when I was young, so when I saw this ticket I had to try it,” said Normal resident Gayle Collins when she presented her $250,000 winning Monopoly instant ticket at the Illinois Lottery Prize Center in Springfield.
Collins was at home in her living room when she scratched her Monopoly ticket and instantly won $250,000. She immediately signed the back of the ticket, put it in her purse and kept her purse beside her all night. “I couldn’t believe I won $250,000. I was so excited, I didn’t sleep all night!” Her plans for the windfall include investing and buying a new car. She also plans to take her son and daughter, both currently serving in the United States Navy, on a vacation.
The winning ticket was purchased at Circle K, 311 Landmark Road in Normal. The retailer will receive a $2,500 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket. Today, Illinois Lottery officials presented Collins a ceremonial check for her $250,000 prize and Circle K a ceremonial check for its $2,500 selling bonus.
Monopoly is a $5 instant ticket featuring a top prize of $250,000. One of the $250,000 prizes has not yet been claimed. For more information, please visit www.illinoislottery.com.
