Calumet City, IL—August 7, 2014 — Weeks before her 53rd birthday, Rosie Farmer received, “The best birthday gift ever!” The lucky Calumet City resident won $650,000 playing Lucky Day Lotto when her Quick Pick ticket matched all five numbers - 04 - 16 - 18 - 36 – 37 – in the Sunday, July 27, midday drawing.
The day of the drawing, Farmer reminded her husband to buy a Lucky Day Lotto ticket. Later that evening while making dinner, they turned on the TV to check the winning numbers, but didn’t see all of them. Farmer asked her husband to go back to the gas station to check the ticket. “When my husband came home he said, ‘This is going to be your best birthday celebration ever!’ I started jumping up and down!”
“I have always wanted to go to Las Vegas to celebrate my birthday and now I can,” said Farmer, whose birthday is in early September. Additional plans for the windfall include paying off their mortgage and buying cars for their 24-year old son and 18-year old daughter. When asked what advice she would give to other lottery players she said, “Never give up on your favorite game. We sure didn’t!”
Farmer and her husband buy a Lucky Day Lotto ticket every Sunday. The winning ticket was purchased at Calumet City 66, 1650 Sibley Road in Calumet City. The retailer will receive a $6,500 bonus, equal to 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket.
Lucky Day Lotto drawings are twice a day, seven days a week and now offer bigger and better prizes for the same price, with the same draw times. For more information, please visit www.illinoislottery.com.
