Hampshire, IL—February 26, 2014 — “This is only the third time I have ever played this game!” Michael Zimniewicz said when he presented his winning Lucky Day Lotto ticket at the Illinois Lottery Prize Center in Rockford.  The lucky Hampshire resident won the $100,000 jackpot prize when his Quick Pick ticket matched all five numbers – 18 - 26 - 28 - 29 – 31 – in the Sunday, February 23, midday drawing.

Zimniewicz discovered his win after hearing from a friend that a $100,000 winning Lucky Day Lotto ticket was sold at Spee–D–Mart.  “That’s where I bought my ticket so I rushed over there to check the winning numbers.”  He was shocked to discover that he held the jackpot winning ticket.  “I was so excited, I kind of lost it and started jumping around in the store!”  He immediately signed the back of the ticket and called his family to tell them the good news.  “They couldn’t believe it!”

When asked about his plans for the windfall, Zimniewicz said that he and his girlfriend plan to buy a house in Hampshire.  “It’s a nice, small town.  I’ve lived here for six years and I plan to stay.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Spee–D–Mart, 990 South State Street in Hampshire.  The retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus, equal to 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket.

Jackpots for Lucky Day Lotto start at $100,000. Drawings are twice a day, seven days a week with an average of 40,000 winners every day. That’s over 250,000 winners in Illinois each week!  For more information, please visit www.illinoislottery.com.
