East Moline, IL— June 13, 2014 — An East Moline resident nearly threw away a $250,000 winning lottery ticket. “It was the first time I ever played a Black Diamond 7s instant ticket and when I scratched it, I didn’t think I had won anything,” Kassie Slagel told staff at the Illinois Lottery Prize Center in Rockford. Just before tossing her ticket in the trash, she decided to take one more look at it. “I was shocked to see that I had actually won! I can’t believe I almost threw away a quarter of a million dollars!”
Slagel and her husband Daren have lived in East Moline for nine years. They plan to use the windfall to buy a new house and invest for their two children to go to college. When asked if she had any advice for other lottery players Slagel said, “Buy a ticket because if this can happen to me, it can happen to anyone!”
The winning ticket was purchased at 7-Eleven, 1027 18th Avenue in East Moline. The store will receive a $2,500 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling a winning ticket. Black Diamond 7s is a $5 instant ticket that offers over 150,000 prizes of $25 or more and a top prize of $250,000. Five $250,000 top prizes remain unclaimed.
