Crete, IL—March 25, 2014 — “When I told my mom I won the lottery she said it was my reward for being such a dedicated nurse all these years. I do believe when you go above and beyond for others it comes back to you,” Deborah Smith said after scratching an Illinois Lottery Crossword instant ticket and winning a top prize of $50,000.
Smith, 64, is a retired registered nurse and was born and raised in Illinois. She has spent the past year taking care of her mother. Smith was at home when she scratched her ticket and discovered she won $50,000. She immediately signed the back of the ticket and then shared the news with her mother. When asked about her plans for the windfall she said, “I’m going to do something special for my mom because she deserves it.”
The winning Crossword ticket was purchased at Party Liquor of Steger, 20 East 34th Street in Steger. The retailer will receive a $500 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling a winning ticket.
Crossword is a $3 instant ticket. Twenty of the $50,000 top prizes have not been claimed. For more information, please visit www.illinoislottery.com.
