Swansea, IL – March 29, 2014— “I love this game!  Three years ago I won $1,000 in the St. Patrick’s Day Millionaire Raffle and now this!” Delbert May said after winning $1million in the Illinois Lottery’s St. Patrick’s Day Millionaire Raffle.  The lucky Swansea resident bought three tickets for the St. Patrick’s Day drawing, “But of course you only need one ticket to win!” he said when he presented his winning  ticket at the Illinois Lottery Prize Center in Fairview Heights.

May, 46, has lived in Swansea for 20 years and is a union electrician for Local 309 in Collinsville.  When he got home from work on March 18 he sat down at his desk, turned on his computer and checked the winning Raffle numbers at  “It said I was a winner and I thought the prize would be $1,000.  Then I scrolled down the page and when I saw the number one and then all those zero’s, I freaked out!”  May immediately signed the back of his ticket and went to his mother’s house to tell her that he had just won $1million.

May plans to get professional financial advice and invest most of the windfall for retirement.  He also plans to go on a Caribbean vacation and buy a new vehicle.  “I have wanted a new truck for a while and now I just might get one!”

The winning St. Patrick’s Day Millionaire Raffle ticket – number 289979 - was purchased at Motomart, 733 North Bluff Road, in Collinsville.  Today, Illinois Lottery officials presented May an oversized check for $1million and Motomart an oversized check for $10,000, their bonus for selling the winning Raffle ticket.

The St. Patrick’s Day Millionaire Raffle offered four $1 million prizes, five $100,000 prizes, and 500 $1,000 prizes. A total of 509 winning tickets were drawn on March 18, 2014.  The other three $1million prize winning tickets were purchased in Bloomingdale, Decatur, and Gillespie.  Lottery players who purchased a St. Patrick’s Day Millionaire Raffle ticket can check the Lottery website, or visit one of the Lottery’s 8,200 retailers across the state to see if they are one of the 509 lucky winners.

Raffle tickets cost $20 and were sold in sequential order at Lottery retailers.   Winners can claim their prizes at one of five Illinois Lottery Prize Centers located in Chicago, Des Plaines, Fairview Heights, Rockford and Springfield.  Raffle winners have one year from the drawing date to claim their prize.
