Thriving for years

Thanks to improved treatments, people living with HIV/AIDS are living longer lives – nearly one-half of all people living with HIV are over the age of 50; with 1 in 5 aged 60 and older.

Winning the battle.

HIV diagnoses are down 16% since 2019 in Illinois.

Making strides

Approximately 37,300 people are living with HIV disease (PLWHA) in Illinois, with the percentage change from 2012-2021 of HIV diagnosis for women down 14% and for men down 19%.

Reducing the spread.

The number of new HIV diagnoses amongst women was down 21% between 2010 and 2019.

A healthier Illinois

HIV diagnosis is down 18% since 2013 in Illinois.

A chance to thrive.

Thanks to improved treatments, people living with HIV/AIDS can expect to live long lives. There are approximately 37,000 people living with HIV disease (PLWHA) in Illinois of whom over two-thirds (68%) are over the age of 40.

Reducing cases

In Illinois, 19.3% of cases diagnosed with HIV infection in 2022 received an AIDS diagnosis within 12 months (compared to 20.7% of cases diagnosed in 2017).

Be safe & get tested

For every 100 people living with HIV disease in Illinois, 59% are virally suppressed and an estimated 14.4% of PLWHA are unaware of their status
