Thanks to improved treatments, people living with HIV/AIDS are living longer lives – nearly one-half of all people living with HIV are over the age of 50; 1 in 5 are aged 60 and older.

Thanks to improved treatments, people living with HIV/AIDS can expect to live long lives. There are approximately 37,000 people living with HIV disease (PLWHA) in Illinois of whom over two-thirds (68%) are over the age of 40.

Reducing cases

Approximately 36,500 people are living with HIV disease (PLWHA) in Illinois, with the rate of HIV diagnosis for women down 36% and for men down 25%.

For every 100 people living with HIV disease in Illinois, 59% are virally suppressed and an estimated 14.4% of PLWHA are unaware of their status
