What is the Illinois Lottery doing about potential gambling problems? 

Responsibility is a core value of the Illinois Lottery. We design our games to be an exciting and fun form of entertainment and encourage players to play responsibly.

Can I exclude myself from the Illinois Lottery digital platform?

Yes, a player who is currently a digital lottery player may reach out to the Player Hotline at 1-800-252-1775 or email support@illinoislottery.com to be excluded from their account.

How do you prevent minors from making purchases?

In accordance with federal regulations, the Illinois Lottery conducts a know-your-customer (KYC) ID review for all registered players, including verification of their age. Prospective players will undergo this review while they are registering.

If a parent or guardian steps away from his or her computer, how are you going to ensure that children in the home are not accessing the Illinois Lottery online account?

As a security measure, the site will time out if user is inactive for 30 minutes.

The Illinois Lottery also encourages parents to ensure that children under the age of 18 do not have access to Personally Identifiable Information ("PII") that may be used to set up a Players Account and/or make purchases.

What is the session timer used for on the website?

This feature allows you to know how much time you are playing on the website. This way, you can make more informed decisions about how you are spending your time and set limits, if you would like.

How do you ensure that players are within the State of Illinois when they make a purchase?

Making purchases on the Illinois Lottery website or app outside of the State of Illinois is strictly prohibited. You must access the website or app from a location within the geographical boundaries of the State of Illinois in order to make a purchase. Aside from making a purchase, online players can use the website or app to view content or maintain their account within or outside of the State of Illinois.

The Illinois Lottery uses location services in order to verify your location at the time of purchase. If the Illinois Lottery is unable to verify your location or unable to verify that your location is within the geographical boundaries of Illinois, you will be prohibited from making a purchase.

Players’ legal residence must be in the State of Illinois and verifiable As a result, you will receive a message that you do not have a verifiable IL address if:

  • AOL is your Internet Service Provider. If you have an AOL account, we cannot determine you are not in the State of Illinois due to AOL's system setup;
  • You are accessing the Internet via a Proxy Server or VPN. If a Proxy Server or VPN is used, we will not be able to verify that you are within the State;  You are using satellite services to access the internet. Internet services provided by a satellite span a broad area (sometimes a continent or more), which prevents us from being able to determine the individual user’s location; or
  • You are using a dial-up internet service. Our systems cannot verify the location of players who use dial-up internet services.

What if someone attempts to improperly represent themselves during registration process?

In the event a purchase is determined to have been placed by an individual under the age of 18, by someone other than the registered owner of the Illinois Lottery account, from a location outside the State of Illinois or through any fraudulent and unlawful means, the prize will be forfeited, the funds deposited to the Common School Fund, and the Illinois Lottery online account may be cancelled.
