CHICAGO, IL — July 19, 2018 — Chicago resident Luis Rivera instantly won $1,000,000 when he scratched a Million Dollar Payday ticket. Rivera has been playing the Illinois Lottery for six years, and said he was in a “state of disbelief” when he discovered he won.

Rivera’s mother and wife didn’t also believe him when he broke the news of his big win to them. He plans to use his winnings to buy a house, as well as support his mother and wife. Rivera’s advice to other lottery players: “Try your luck!”

Rivera purchased his winning ticket at Ozzie’s Liquor and Deli, 11158 W. Grand Ave., in Melrose Park. The retailer received a bonus of $10,000, or one percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket. Million Dollar Payday is a $5 instant ticket with three top prizes of $1,000,000, one of which has not been claimed.
