Fast Play® Friday: Illinois Player Claims $10,000 Lottery Prize on First Try

November 6, 2020

CHICAGO—A retired player from McHenry, Illinois is one of the latest players to win a great cash prize playing the Lottery’s brand new game Fast Play.

The player, who chose to share his story anonymously, took the advice of his favourite retailer - and within minutes of doing so, was ten thousand dollars richer.

“I was at the store where I usually buy my Pick 3 and scratchers and they told me I should try this new game,” said the player. “I decided to play, and out came this slip of paper. When I looked at it, I almost couldn’t believe it - I thought to myself, ‘This is the first time I have played this game and I’ve just won ten thousand dollars.’  I was really happy,” he laughed.

The player shared his winning moment with the retailer, who remains the first and only person he told about his win. “I looked at the guy who sold me the ticket and said to him, ‘I can’t believe this! Thank you for telling me to play the game’,” the winner said.

The winning ticket was sold at Family Food Mart at 810 N. Front Street in McHenry, Illinois.

The player has continued to both play and win Illinois Lottery games since hitting it big with his most recent Fast Play win.

“I bought an instant ticket at Jewel this morning and won $500, and earlier this week I won $500 on another instant ticket - I must be on a lucky streak,” he laughed.

The winner recommends his strategy to keep playing responsibly. “Back in 1998, I put aside some cash to use as my ‘fun money’ and it goes up and down but I have never run out from that,” he said.

The player’s $10,000 prize was the top prize on the “Hot Dice” Fast Play game. More than $1,344,000 in Fast Play prizes have been won across the state this week by more than 327,000 lucky players.
