Cats Bring Good Luck to Illinois Lottery Player
Instant tickets are fun gifts for adults—but not for minors
CHICAGO—Cat lovers know the benefit of having a cat - now one Illinois Lottery player is adding a little extra luck to that list thanks to her cats helping her win a $1,180 Pick 4 prize. The winner, who shared her story anonymously, recently adopted two cats from Paws Chicago, and when she grabbed a Pick 4 ticket not long after, decided to play the address of the adoption center.
“I adopted two kittens three weeks ago, Eustace and Denzel from Paws Chicago,” says the player. “So on a whim, I decided to play the address of the adoption center, 1-9-9-7.”
The winner, from the suburbs of Chicago, says that she was at home when she found out she won and the news of this win brought out her holiday spirit, “When I found out I won, my first thought was ‘Happy Christmas!’,” exclaims the winner.
And a happy holiday it will be, especially for the winner’s two fur babies, Denzel, a domestic short hair and Eustace, a grey tabby. “With my winnings, I am going to buy a few things for my cats,” says the player. “I have been looking at Petsmart online for a cat tree and of course cat food and lots of catnip too!“ the player laughs.
The winner has been a regular player of the Illinois Lottery over the past 10 years or so and says that Pick 3 and Pick 4 are her favorite games to play. When it comes to picking numbers, the player says she looks around at what’s happening in her life for inspiration.
“I like to play situational numbers, so the lucky numbers that I play are what is occurring in my life, like a new phone number, birthday or address,” says the winner.
The player has previously won prizes playing these special situational numbers, and shared the story of one of her favorite past wins.
“One time, I played my son’s birthday on Pick 4 and won a $5,000 prize,” says the player.
The player’s advice to fellow lottery players is to go with your “gut instinct” and play a number if it feels right.
