$1,000 ‘Ultimate Millions’ Instant Win for Chicago Suburb Player

CHICAGO – The theory of beginners luck was certainly true for Illinois Lottery player Jeglett Byrd, who won $1,000 playing the first Instant ticket that she ever bought.

Byrd is a Barrington resident who has been playing Illinois Lottery draw games for over 20 years, and her go-to game of choice is Pick 4.

“Recently, I decided to buy an instant ticket for the first time because it seemed like a good way to pass the time,” she said “I didn’t expect to win on my first try.”

That evening, Byrd was sitting at home watching television, when she decided to scratch the Ultimate Millions instant ticket bought in-store earlier that day. When she saw that one of her numbers matched the number with the prize value of $1,000, she realized that her lucky moment was happening.

“I started jumping up and down when I saw that I won, I couldn’t believe it,” Byrd said. “I called my daughter right away to double check that I wasn’t seeing things.”

When asked what she will do with her prize money, Byrd said, “I am planning on saving it for when my family and I can go out and do something fun together.”
