January 16, 2021

$1.49 Billion To Play For With Mega Millions Roll

CHICAGO—Welcome to the weekend. Are you ready to play for an estimated $1.49 billion in prizes?! Mega Millions® rolled last night and is worth an estimated $850 million for the next draw, and the Powerball® jackpot in tonight’s draw is worth an estimated $640 million.

If won, tonight’s Powerball jackpot of $640 million would be the fifth largest jackpot in the game’s history and the ninth largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history.

As the jackpot continues to rise, Illinois Powerball players are raking in the wins too.

Wednesday night’s Powerball draw brought home a $50,000 prize for one lucky Illinois player. The winning ticket was sold at Mariano’s at 3020 Wolf Road in Westchester.

If purchasing your ticket in-store, throughout the month of January, the Illinois Lottery is giving players who buy three or more lines of Mega Millions or Powerball tickets for the current draw, one free Quick Pick Lucky Day Lotto® ticket.

One lucky lottery player just scooped $700,000 on Lucky Day Lotto - all thanks to the free ticket they received in-store! The winning ticket is from Brookdale Petroleum on 1983 Brookdale Road in Naperville, Illinois for the midday Lucky Day Lotto drawing on Friday, January 15.

When visiting a retailer, the Illinois Lottery reminds players to practice safe social distancing and adhere to the store’s safety measures.

If staying in on Saturday is more your speed, you can still get in on the lottery action online. Illinois Lottery players can purchase draw-based game tickets online via and the Illinois Lottery app.

Online players have won quite a bit of cash playing Powerball both online and on the app. Since 2019, three Illinois Lottery players have won prizes of $100,000 and 17 have cashed in on $50,000 prizes.

Powerball is played on Wednesday and Saturday, with the next draw taking place tonight, Saturday, January 16 at 9:59 pm CT.  Mega Millions is played every Friday and Tuesday night, with the next draw taking place tonight, Friday, January 15 at 10 p.m. (CT).
