Lending a helping hand
The Illinois Department of Human Services served 25,825 households with its Emergency and Transitional Housing Program, which provides immediate and comprehensive shelter services to homeless persons and persons at risk of homelessness.
Prevention is key
In fiscal year 2025, the Homeless Prevention Program served 8,709 households. This included 20,589 individuals, 9,297 of whom were children.
Needed support
In fiscal year 2025, the Supportive Housing Program served 12,068 individuals with supportive services that enable special needs low-income individuals and families who are formerly homeless or at risk of becoming homeless to maintain their community-based living instead of returning to homelessness.
