A Message From The Illinois Lottery

March 19, 2020

Dear Illinoisans,

As you know, individuals, organizations, and schools are being asked to respond to a rapidly evolving landscape as the COVID-19 pandemic progresses. It’s a challenging time for us all, but I wanted you to know that we’re doing all we can to protect and support all members of the Illinois Lottery community: you the players, our lottery employees, partners, and retailers. We want to make sure we’re taking proper precautions as we move forward.

First and foremost, we echo the guidelines for maintaining social distancing and other safety precautions that have been provided by the Governor, the Illinois Department of Public Health and the CDC, including diligent hand washing, maintaining six-feet of distance from others, avoiding any gatherings of greater than 10 people, and to the extent possible, staying put in our homes. The health of everyone in Illinois is of utmost importance to us.

As I’m sure you can understand, these guidelines will affect the Lottery. Many retail establishments remain open and as such players can purchase draw games and instant tickets at lottery retail locations, but for the safety of everyone, we encourage you to visit, for the latest guidance on protecting yourself and the people around you while shopping. Due to the closure of Illinois bars, lottery sales at these retailers are suspended until further notice.

We want you to know that Lottery will continue business operations. Drawings will continue to be held for Mega Millions, Powerball, Lotto, Lucky Day Lotto, and our Pick 3 and Pick 4 games. All of these games are available to play online through the Illinois Lottery website and the Lottery mobile app.

In addition, although all Lottery claim centers are now closed until further notice, you can still claim your prize via mail. Please visit our When You Win page to learn more about how to mail in a prize claim. Prizes of $600 and less can still be claimed at retail locations subject to the availability of funds on hand, but again, we strongly encourage social distancing if venturing in-store.

Finally, we want to express our deep appreciation and thanks to all our players for their patience, understanding and continued support. We believe Illinois is full of winners and it’s during challenging times like these when the true spirit of the people of Illinois is shown. We know that over the coming months, we will continue to band together as a community and look out for one another as we get through this unprecedented situation.

Please stay safe and healthy,

Harold Mays
